Norah Vincent is an American writer. Known as the “libertarian lesbian” and disenchanted by writing the same stories for the same publications, it was a friend’s suggestion of going out in drag for an evening that led Norah to live as a man for 18 months.
While she instantly noticed the shift in how others approached and engaged with her, what most surprised Norah was the sympathy she felt for men, having walked in their shoes for the first time.
In her book, Self-Made Man, Norah (or, Ned) details her experiences as a man, offering an oft-overlooked insight into the pressures both men and women face when it comes to societal stereotypes.
